The American Maoist

Capturing daily vignettes sometimes gives me more joy than spot news photography. It's really challenging to capture the oddities in daily life and I think this picture encapsulates it well.

For all the flak the USA gets for being imperialists and screwing up the world the past eight years, it goes to show how their soft power continues to be strong. A Maoist soldier has the stars and stripes on his head during the Maoist celebration of their war's anniversary. 

The People's Liberation Army celebrated with a parade complete with mass dances, karate demonstrations and even a staged commando raid.  I have photos of those, but they didn't turn out so well and I don't wanna bore you guys with them.
